Civil Society Organizations (SCOs) have called on the National Assembly to urgently dispense with sections of the constitution that provide for the president to assent to amended bills before they can become law.
This formed part of deliberations,, as the group met in Abuja on Monday to discuss how to effectively engage the 8th National Assembly in its proposed Constitution Review.
Discussants at the meeting maintained that the failure of former president Goodluck Jonathan to append his signature to the Constitution (Amendment) 4th Alteration Bill passed by the 7th Assembly and the 36 State Houses of Assembly negated every success recorded by the previous assembly.
They also said that the timing of the passage also made it difficult for further steps to be taken on the process.
