Six standing committees of the House of Representatives have failed to meet last Friday’s deadline for submission of the reports on the 2016 budget of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) they oversight, to the Committee on Appropriation.

The six committees are: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) headed by its Deputy Chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Baba, Committee on Loans, Aids and Debts headed by Hon. Adeyinka Ajayi, Committee on Gas Resources headed by Hon. Agbedi Frederick.

Others are Committee on Public Service Matters chaired by Hon. Gogo Tamuno Bright, Committee on Maritime Safety chaired by Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago and Committee on Interior and National Security chaired by Hon. Jagaba Adams Jagaba.

The Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, Hon. Jibrin Abdulmumim, in a statement issued yesterday, regretted that they did not meet their deadlines.

“Due to pressure of time because we have to tidy up the final report with the Senate, the Committee on Appropriation will have to take over the work of such committees by appropriating funds for the MDAS that they supervise,” he said.

Abdulmumim said the committee formally closed the coalition of reports on Friday as the committees presented their reports which include recommendations and challenges of the MDAs they oversight.

“We thank them for their cooperation and that they heeded our call to submit their reports within the deadline. This is for the overall interest of the nation and the commitment of the National Assembly to pass the 2016 budget at the latest by the second week of March,” he said.

He disclosed that the committee would interface with officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Budget Office on March 3, 2016 over the budget.
