Ikorodu United Head Coach Edema Benson is quite ecstatic over his side’s hard fought victory against Lobi Stars.
The newly promoted side pipped the Makurdi outfit 1-0 in yesterday’s top flight Match-day 3 clash at the Onikan Stadium in Lagos.
The 11th minute goal by petite striker Balogun Kabir proved adequate to hand Ikorodu United their first victory in the three-week old top flight.
Benson said the victory is a bold statement that his side will not be pushovers in the ongoing league season.
“I’m very happy beating ‘champions’ Lobi Stars 1-0 in today’s (Sunday) hotly contested match.
“It’s not a an easy performance against a side that went to Ibadan to earn the whole three points and back home defeated Sunshine Stars to maintain 100 per cent record prior to today’s game.
“I know the clash will not be an easy one and both sides proved their worth in the entire game.
“I think we have been able to prove to all that we will not be pushovers in the top flight nor be seen as amateur.
“We were champions coming into the Premier League and that’s what we want to prove in the league.
“It’s not yet done and dusted. We will continue to push ahead as there is work to be done.
“Ikorodu United will never be found wanting rather we will always acquit ourselves and be ready for the challenges,” said the former Nigerian ace to supersport.com.
The victory has taken Ikorodu United’s total earnings to four points with a match to spare at Akwa United.
