The PDP Solidarity Group has expressed complete solidarity with Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of Aviation and former Director of Media and Publicity of the Goodluck Jonathan Presidential Campaign Organisation, in his quest for the enthronement of justice and equity in the PDP and his opposition to Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff as PDP’s National Chairman.
This is contained in a statement by the Chairman, Chief Taiwo Olaiya, and Secretary, Seni Adeola, PDP Solidarity Group, Osogbo, Osun state.
The group said Fani Kayode was not alone in the struggle against Sheriff and he has voiced the concerns of millions of party members and stakeholders all over the country. “Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff would be wise to embrace peace and leave Fani-Kayode alone if he wants the party to gain support and new members.
“We also advise him to go and clear his image and settle his differences with all party stakeholders, including the Ministers Forum. As long as he rejects the path of peace and he is intolerant of criticism we will oppose him.”
The group said they believe that the PDP Ministers’ Forum, in which Chief Fani-Kayode is a leading member, has taken the right step by rejecting Ali Modu Sheriff adding that they stand with the Forum in the struggle.
They said, “We believe that the tremendous support that Chief Fani-Kayode has given the PDP in Osun State and indeed the South-West over the last 15 years is exemplary and outstanding. More than anyone else he has risked his life for and committed his resources to the fortunes of the PDP over the years and we will not stand by and let anyone rubbish him.”
The group said, “More than anyone else in our party he has spoken up for the Yoruba cause and stood for the interest of our leaders and people and we appreciate this.
“Anyone or group of persons that threatens him or seeks to oppose and destroy him or his career will be vigorously resisted. “Such people will only end up destroying themselves and the PDP and further damage their fortunes.” They described Fani-Kayode as a great asset to PDP, “a great leader, a fearless and irrepressible warrior and a man that inspires us all with his words and actions. “His commitment to our collective cause has been consistent and outstanding. With forthright and honest leaders like him there is still hope for our party and our country.”
