Akwa Ibom State Government has been urged to properly investigate the fire incident reported in an oil-bearing community of the state before effecting any compensation.
His Royal Highness, Etubom Ekpo Bassey Ekpo (v) of King James Ekpo Abasi House of James town, Effiat Clan, Mbo local government area of the state, made the call in a statement issued at the weekend.
He said the fire that occurred in James Town on February 11, 2016, destroyed property worth several millions of naira.
The king noted that the Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Moses Ekpo was misled to visit and sympathtize with the people of Ibaka community over the fire outbreak instead of the actual people and place where it occurred.
The chief explained that the fire incidence affected substantial portion of James town village, especially Efak Okodi and Etak Edat under the headship of Chief Effiong Archibong Etim of James Town village.
He wondered why Ibaka, was been recognized as the victim of the fire disaster to be entitled to compensation including relief materials from the State government without due regards to James Town community.
