Henceforth, Nigerian students who desire to study at the University of Dayton, Ohio, USA will be given the rare opportunity to qualify for undergraduate admission with WAEC and will be exempted from sitting the U.S. equivalent of JAMB called the SAT. This also means Nigerian students are exempted from applications fees too.

This groundbreaking partnership was announced by representatives of the institution in Nigeria during a press briefing held in Lagos recently.

The University of Dayton is a private, Catholic school in Ohio located about an hour north of Cincinnati and about an hour west of the state capital of Columbus. Students at the University of Dayton can choose from more than 80 undergraduate majors and many graduate programmes, including those in the schools of business administration, law, engineering and education.

The university’s staff recently visited Nigeria to evaluate the Nigerian curriculum at both secondary level and university levels and eventually concluded that Nigerian students will be exempt from additional entrance exams and given partial merit scholarships if they have good grades.

Consequently, undergraduate students with distinction average will automatically qualify for a 10,000 USD academic scholarship per annum. Students who are seeking postgraduate admission who have a 2:1 or First Class will be awarded a 5,000 USD academic scholarship.

Founded in 1850 by the Society of Mary, the university continues its Roman Catholic traditions with a strong emphasis on volunteerism, serving the community and turning students into young leaders. The holistic environment of the University of Dayton with strong emphasis on ethics, values and Marianist traditions is gifted with faculty and staff who are attentive and accommodating.

Regional Manager for West Africa, Selma Toohey, said: “There are over 10,000 Nigerian students studying in the United States because of the world class quality of institutions. University of Dayton is ranked 56 Best Engineering Schools in the USA (U.S. News and World Reports). We are very excited that Dayton is actively seeking brilliant Nigerian students for admission by making their transition to the U.S. warm and streamlined.”

Students can study MBA, Masters of Law, Public Administration, Cyber Security and a wide range of Engineering courses including Aerospace, Bioengineering, Civil, Renewable and Clean Energy, Electrical Engineering and more. Scholarships of up to 5,000 USD are available for postgraduate courses.
