Senator Marafa’s Political Career is Finished, Says Yari

Zamfara State Governor, Abdulhaziz Yari, has threatened to kill the political career of Senator Kabir Marafa, who represents Zamfara Central senatorial zone in the Senate.

Several times on the floor of Senate, he had accused the governor of alleged failure to tackle the increasing security challenges in the state.

Addressing a news conference yesterday in Kaduna, a Special Adviser to the governor, Salisu Isa, said for uttering “scandalous statements against Yari in Senate, Marafa political career is finished. We are going to kill him politically…” he declared.

According to him, “Since the coming of Marafa in 2011, he has been moving around with thugs. Forget about his vociferous outburst, he cannot come to Zamfara State; he does not have anybody (followership) and we are going to kill him politically.”

Speaking further, Isa alleged that Marafa would not succeed Yari as governor and will not return to the Senate in 2019.

“He is not going to be the governor and he is not going to return as senator,” Isa said while responding to questions during the press conference.

He said: “With these attacks from him (Marafa), he is attacking himself, he is attacking his party, he is attacking President Muhammadu Buhari.

“We are going to work with the governor to kill his political career. We are not banning him, but he will not see anybody around him.”

Earlier, while reading from a prepared text, Isa said it was his duty to respond to the “reckless attacks and allegations” against the governor by the senator.

According to him, the governor is making concerted efforts to tackle the security menace facing the people of the state and he should be commended rather than castigated in a manner the senator did.

“For the records, on his inauguration, Yari stated among his administration’s key priorities to address the menace of insecurity in the state, especially confronting cattle rustling, kidnapping and banditry that has given the people of the state sleepless night for many years.

“Shortly after assuming office, the governor has paid several visits on the president and military service chiefs to appeal to the federal government for assistance to tackle the menace of insecurity occasioned by cattle rustling, banditry and other forms of crimes in the state.

“All these efforts are in public knowledge. This is to underscore the commitment of the governor towards ending insecurity and crimes in Zamfara State as against what Senator Marafa alleged,” he said.

Isa said: “It is therefore irresponsible and cheap blackmail for Marafa to state that Yari and his deputy were responsible for the insecurity in state. This is clear act of mischief which cannot help the people of the state in anyway.”
