Mass redeployment of journalists and other staff of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) to state ministries, agencies and parastatals is to ensure quality broadcasting in line with what has been attainable by ARISE Television and others in Nigeria.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Olalekan Ali, made this known wednesday while briefing journalists on the restructuring of the organisation.

No fewer than 144 staffers were affected in the reorganisation and reengineering of the corporation being redesigned to become an autonomous media and entertainment hub in the city of Ibadan, South-west political headquarters.

The SSG who was flanked by the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun; Head of Service, Mr. Soji Eniade; Project Director of BCOS, Mr. Yanju Adegbite; Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Information Culture and Tourism, Dr. Bashir Olanrewaju and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Print Media Mr. Akin Oyedele, said the feat recorded by new entrants into the broadcasting world like ARISE TV, was achievable in BCOS with the latest development.

He described BCOS as a massively bloated workforce – with a current staff strength of over 500, adding that a wasteland of estate properties and other resources waiting to be optimally utilised for the public good would be put into use to guarantee operational efficiency.

He said: “Therefore, when this government was re-elected into office in 2015, we decided on the massive transformation of BCOS into a diversified media and entertainment corporation capable of exploring, exploiting and growing its extensive opportunities for the maximum benefit and profit of all its stakeholders. To achieve this end, government consequently embarked on an organisational, technical and commercial review and redesign of the BCOS.”

Ali said the state government engaged the services of the internationally renown consulting firm, KPMG Advisory Services to assist in carrying out a comprehensive audit as well to propose appropriate structures and strategies in BCOS, the resultant effect of which was the latest inevitable restructuring.

He said the overall intent of transformation of BCOS into a media and entertainment hub with the vision “ is to be the leading media and entertainment hub that propels the unique cultural heritage of the Yoruba to the global market” while the vision is “creating pleasurable experiences for our target markets through the provision of exceptional products sand service”.
