The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) has reportedly fixed March 3, 2018 for the conduct of local government elections in the state.
Although EDSIEC is yet to release details of the election schedule, a source from the commission however confided that political parties are expected to conduct their primaries before the end of the month, while campaigns start from next month.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, said it would commence processes for the conduct of primaries for its aspirants in earnest.
The party said it has fixed N250,000 as nomination form for chairmanship aspirants while aspirants for councillorship will pay N50,000.
The state Secretary of the APC, Lawrence Okah, said: “We are already working hard for the elections because we are ready to consolidate on Obaseki’s victory in the state.
When contacted however, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said the party was not aware of the date.
The Publicity Secretary of PDP, Chris Nehikhare, who spoke on behalf of the party, said: “We have not received any notice from EDSIEC regarding local government election this year.”
