The people of Onicha Clan in Onicha Local Government Area of the state have fixed January 27 to adopt Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi as their sole candidate for the 2019 governorship election in the state.
Umahi will also be honoured by the people for the numerous accomplishments of his administration in the community and in the state in general.
Arising from stakeholders meeting of the community convened by the member representing Ohaozara, Onicha/Ivo Federal Constituency, Hon. Linus Okorie, the community expressed delight that Umahi has exhibited exemplary leadership, assuring him of their supports and solidarity in office.
The community leaders further noted that they would stand firmly on the resolution of the governor for the reelection of Okorie, as he has represented the constituency very well in the National assembly.
Okorie said the stakeholders reiterated their support to the community’s traditional and political leaders and to work amicably with former deputy governor of the state and now acting Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi state University (EBSU), Elder Prof. Chigozie Ogbu to ensure that every political activity in the area is conducted peacefully and in line with the acceptable norms of the community.
He further disclosed that the community equally resolved to that the House of Representatives shall be the minimum acceptable position for the clan’s 2019 political negotiations, and also agreed to set up a Committee to work with his office in ensuring the immediate energisation of the now completed Onicha electricity project by the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) which he said was his office’s flagship constituency project.
“While affirming our resolve for the unity, security and well-being of all indigenes and residents, the meeting affirmed its unequivocal support for the government of our amiable governor, Engr. Umahi by adopting him for the 2019 gubernatorial contest, reaffirmed the plans for a grand reception in his honour on January 27, 2018, resolved that the House of Representatives shall be the minimum acceptable position for the clan’s 2019 political negotiations, agreed to set up a Committee to work with my office in ensuring the immediate energisation of the now completed Onicha electricity project by the EEDC (this has been our flagship constituency project).
“The meeting further reaffirmed the clan’s unflinching respect and reverence to our traditional institutions and leaders especially Prof. Chigozie Ogbu, (VC, Ebonyi State University). It was also decided that all political activities must be conducted peacefully and democratically and that any infractions of the law shall not and should not be hidden under any partisan colorations. The clan shall, accordingly, monitor and sanction any such infractions”, he added.
