LG Electronics: Using Technology for Positive Learning Environment

With high technology penetration and adoption in virtually all sectors, employing high-tech innovations to enhance and influence a desired learning behaviour might not be a bad idea.

 Experts believe that a lot of factors, especially a soothing environment could direct and focus students’ attention on effective learning.

An educationist, Linda Dusenbury, pointed out that a conducive learning setting was required for students’ motivation, academic achievement, improved attendance and teachers’ retention.

Away from the   traditional and other intangible elements to foster a conducive educational atmosphere such as wall art, desks arrangement, classroom energy, rules and sound, research has also shown that the relevance of educational technologies as viable in supporting teaching and learning processes.

Technology has succeeded in digitizing classrooms through tools like, computers, tablets, smartphones and smart digital white boards.

Ever since the world became more inter-connected since 2005, more technology inventions are finding widespread applications in classrooms across the globe and multinational information technology firm, LG Electronics, is not relenting in this area.

As part of its corporate social responsibility drive and commitment to educational growth and a fulfilled nation, the firm has been keying into the potential of educational technologies by churning out students-friendly products and other gestures.

For instance, its HVAC system has earned a global recognition in creating suitable climate for education by reducing distractions, increase attention span and boost motivation for teachers and students.

Also worthy of note is its portable projectors, an excellent addition to the modern classroom that aids students’ intellectual engagement and retention. It is also in fulfillment of its pledge that it  established air conditioning training academy in institutions of higher learning across the world while also offering free classes and vocational training to professionals in the industry.

According to the company, its investment in the education sector stems from its belief in the Nigerian child, the tomorrow’s leader, capable of interrupting the world given the necessary resources.

  Speaking on this initiative, Managing Director of LG Electronics West Africa operations, Mr. Taeick Son said, “The importance of education cannot be overemphasised in the life of every corporate entity, that is why we will go to any length to support  it with whatever we have at our disposal; be it  products, grants, scholarship and what have you. We are indeed committed to funding educational initiatives around the world.”

Son noted further that the company is committed to making a positive impact in the markets it enters and also leaves an indelible mark. In particular, the company is concerned with the empowerment of youths through educational interventions which it is pursuing aggressively.

“This explains our partnership with the University of Lagos as well as  the Global IT challenge for Youths with disabilities (GITC) in collaboration with the Korean Society for Rehabilitation of Persons with Disability (KSRPD). This is aimed at availing the disabled with more opportunities to utilize and access information and communications technology (ICT). With this, we hope we are preparing the youth living with disabilities for a better future,” he added.
