Former Kaduna Military Governor, Mohammed, Dies at 73

A former military governor of old Kaduna State, AVM Mouktar Mohammed (rtd), 73, is dead.

Family sources said Muhammed died on Sunday in a London hospital after a battle with cancer.

Mohammad was appointed into the highest decision making body in Nigeria in 1975, the Supreme Military Council. He was also appointed the Federal Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Environment in 1976 and was instrumental to the creation of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He was the Chairman of the National Cash Crops Rehabilitation Project in 1975.

He was the traditional title holder of Wazirin Dutse and the Chairman of Freedom Radio Group Board of Directors.

Mohammed was recently appointed by the federal government as the Chairman, Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Kaduna State.

Mohammed was the Chairman of Terytex LTD, Dailfam Nig. LTD, Zamani College Kaduna and Director, Automotive Components Industry, Kaduna.

He is survived by a wife, many children and relatives.
