Delta State Government has congratulated members of ‘Team Delta’ for doing the state proud by winning the just concluded 3rd National Youth Games held at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State.
Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ukah, in a statement in Asaba yesterday described the victory of the team as further testifying to the determination of Delta sons and daughters to make the state proud through excellence in all spheres of human endeavour.
The statement noted that “what makes this victory more spectacular and very special’ is the fact that the overall winner’s trophy has been won for keeps by Delta State, having won all three editions of the youth games consecutively.
Ukah commended the athletes for their doggedness, stressing that they held their heads high “in true Delta spirit especially when Ondo State athletes made huge attempts on cutting their lead in the medals table”.
He noted with delight that Delta State came out tops at the end of proceedings with 21 gold, 16 silver and 23 bronze medals, ahead of Akwa Ibom State who occupied the 2nd position with 16 gold, 15 silver and 15 bronze medals.
Ondo State finished third with 12 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze medals during the keen competition.
The statement also congratulated the Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa, his management team and other officials “who contributed in no small way to make the state proud again at the end of the 3rd edition of the youth sports fiesta”.
