Orji Uzor Kalu
The Abia State chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA), Emeka Okafor, has said the intimidating political stature of the former governor of the state, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, was responsible for the fretting in the camp of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state over the return or otherwise of Kalu to the party he left for the PPA.
Okafor, who reminded the people of the state that Kalu is not into active politics now as he quit the PPA as the chairman of the Board of Trustees, said the party would not even watch him return to the PDP, which he described as a party of failures in the state.
He said that the recent moves at the state and ward levels in the PDP in Abia State, claiming that some faceless persons do not want Kalu back in the party, has shown clearly that some people are beginning to get jittery over the former governor’s recent campaign for the realisation of the Igbo presidency project in 2015, which could mean his return to active politics.
Okafor added: “Let it be clearly stated that the leadership of the PDP in Abia State, led by the state Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, does not have the capacity to stop Dr. Kalu’s rising political profile.
“If the PDP, that was regarded as a behemoth, under the lawless presidency of former Chief Olusegun Obasanjo when it came to election issues, could not stop Dr. Kalu’s political machinery from retaining the governorship of the state in 2007, then the party should realise now that with a law abiding president in power, it would be difficult to manipulate the process. “It is so refreshing, gladdening and heart warming that at least we now know that free and fair election is guaranteed and that anyone who wants to win elections must work for and towards it, courtesy of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and his courageous team.
“This is the major fear of the PDP because it knows that in Abia State its story since 2007 is that of total failure and as such needs to manipulate the system for survival.”
