Traditional wrestlers

Director of Sports, Bayelsa Sports Council, Chief Isaac Mark-Scent declared Wednesday that wrestling was Team Bayelsa’s area of specialty, hence they are dominating the sport at the ongoing  National Sports Festival in Lagos.

Mark-Scent said at the medals presentation ceremony at the University of Lagos Sports Complex that the Izons were traditionally a wrestling nation.

“Actually wresting is our traditional sport and virtually everybody in Bayelsa is a wrestler. We already knew it was going to turn out this way.

“The Izons are very good wrestlers and you can see that our major challengers are our brothers from Delta and Rivers, but we are still dominating,” he said.
The director added that the current medal haul of the state in wrestling was a testimony of the state’s well-ordered programme on making wrestling its major sport.

“Already, we have won five gold medals in the event, including silver and bronze medals and we are still counting because the event is still on,” Mark-Scent added
