Ibom Golf Resort, Uyo
Team O&A Consulting will put its title on the line at the second edition of the World Corporate Golf Challenge which tees off at Ibom Golf Resort, Uyo on April 13-15, a week after the Easter holiday.
Last year, the fourball of Remi Olukoya, Joe Abu, Muyideen Olaitan and Chris Obija, secured victory for the Lagos based team which represented Nigeria at the international final in Georges, South Africa.
The winners will be flown business class by South Africa Airways to the world final which will again be played at the Gary Player designed course in Fancourt from May 1-6.
Former Open Champion and Europe’s Ryder Cup captain, Tony Jacklin, has been signed up as the official global ambassador of the World Corporate Challenge.
The tournament is one of the leading amateur golf events in Nigeria as it is particularly attractive for golfers in the corporate cadre.
It will remain so, according to Obinna Duru of Doska Management, the organizers of the tournament considering the number of companies that have enquired to feature at the tournament.
While the tournament remains a one off national final, the format has been slightly adjusted by the organizers.
Unlike at the last final where each team registered four players, the format for this year will remain stablefford but not be more than two players per side.
What this means is that the impressive O&A will not remain the same unit should the players decide to make the trip to Uyo.
Duru said that the world organizing body which announced the change will, however, allow each player to play to three-quarters of their handicap with strokes deducted at each hole according to the Stroke Index of the course.
South Africa Airways, Diamond Bank and Distell, who is the major importer of Amarula to Nigeria, are the major sponsors.
