Flood Victims

Western Union Money Transfer Service said it had provided relief materials to victims of the Delta State flood.

A statement said the handover of the items took place at the Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), Asaba. It put the total cost of the relief materials at $25,000.

This, it said, showed the organisation’s commitment to social responsibility as it supported 1,000 families – especially women and children that were displaced.

The donation included bags of rice, vegetable oil, mosquito nets, baby cots and cooking stoves. It was offered by Western Union in collaboration with DOAM Foundation.

Commenting on the development, Western Union’s Regional Vice President for North, Central and West Africa, Aida Diarra, said: “At Western Union, we believe our services go beyond money transfer, and our donation is an illustration of the different ways in which we are moving money for better to help rebuild communities.”

Programmes Manager, DOAM Foundation, Clare Henshaw, said: “Improving the lives of the less privileged is part of our organisation’s mission. Through this joint exercise with Western Union, we are able to directly impact the families affected, providing for their most pressing requirements in moments of need.”
