The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-west zone yesterday held its inaugural meeting at the party’s zonal headquarters in Ibadan with the caretaker committee chairman, Chief Ishola Fulani, describing the committee as a child of necessity.
Filani, who spoke with journalists after the meeting, said the committee came into being to fill the vacancy that arose from a court ruling which invalidated the Olusegun Oni-led zonal working committee.
"You know nature abhors vacuum which informed the reason our committee was set up to ensure that the party is kept alive in the zone," he said.
He lamented the deepening crisis of the party in the zone which he attributed to internal wrangling.
Filani stated that the committee was not raised up to politically run down any group or individual in the party.
He admitted the challenges before his committee, which he said bordered on reconciliation, reconstruction and rebuilding of the party.
The PDP chief exuded that two years on, all combatants have become battle weary which he hoped will facilitate genuine reconciliation among aggrieved stalwarts in the party.
"The pains have subsided which means that the problem is half-solved. Ours is just to ice the cake," he added.
Filani said with a genuine reconciliation, the party would be in a good stead to fight for the electoral success of the party in the zone from next year beginning from Ekiti and Osun States.
