Wamakko Urges FG to Begin Oil Exploration in Sokoto

Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, has called on the Federal Government to commence the exploitation of oil in Sokoto State, following the discovery of hydrocarbon deposits in some parts of the state.

Wamakko made the call yesterday, while receiving the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar (III), who paid him Sallah homage at Presidential Lodge, Sokoto.

According to him, recent studies by some experts revealed that Sokoto State has huge deposits of hydrocarbon.

He said the Federal Government should commence oil exploration in earnest in the state.

“We have concrete evidence that there is oil deposits in Sokoto, so, the onus is on the Federal Government to commence its exploitation,” Wamakko averred.

He said the state government will soon write the Federal Government to commence the exploitation of hydrocarbon resources in the state.

Wamakko, who pointed out that his administration will also sponsor the exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits in the state, hinted that his administration will soon embark on massive irrigation of farm projects across the state.

Wamakko emphasised that government will also distribute farming inputs to dry season farmers to enable them boost food production in the state.
He appealed to traditional leaders in the councils to embark on adequate mobilisation to enable their subjects key into the vision of agricultural transformation.

“In the next few weeks, this administration will channel its energy to promoting dry season farming across the state. So, the onus is on District Heads and village heads to mobilise their subjects, as government will ensure that only genuine farmers get farm inputs to boost food production,” Wamakko said.

He assured that his administration will soon implement the new salary scheme and allowance for traditional leaders in the state.
The governor reiterated his determination to execute projects, which would impact on the lives of the people of the state.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto  called on the state government to implement the new salary scheme for traditional leaders in the state.

He expressed the readiness of traditional institutions to continue to support government in order to meet the developmental needs of the people.

The monarch called on residents to continue to pray for peace to reign in the state.
