Senate Committee Chairman on Aviation, Senator Hope Uzodinma
Senate Committee Chairman on Aviation, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has joined the number of Nigerians commending the Goodluck Jonthan’s administration for the unprecedented transformation in the railway transport system in Nigeria.
Speaking with Aviation Correspondents at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, yesterday, Uzodimma said for the first time in many years, the Lagos-Kano rail route has been resuscitated with a direct rail flight from Lagos to Kano.
He said this was a rare feat worthy of commendation as previous administrations in the country had expended huge financial resources without tangible results.
The Senator explained that with the resuscitation of the rail route, it would greatly ease the passenger/cargo traffic from Lagos to northern parts of the country.
“Given the heavy vehicular traffic on Nigerians roads, the resuscitation of that rail route will take the strain off the Lagos-Northern roads and this is worth commending,” he added.
He also applauded the transformation in the power sector which has brought about improved power supply in the country, nothing that it has cumulative effect as it would have positive impact on the economy and also improve the well-being of the citizenry, particularly artisans who depend on power to run their businesses.
Uzodimma appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the Jonathan’s administration as its transformation agenda would become manifest in all spheres before the end of its tenure.
“I appeal to Nigerians irrespective of their political leanings to support the Jonathan’s administration instead of distractions and unnecessary criticisms so that it can fully realise its transformation agenda in all the sectors,” he said.
