Delta State Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama, SAN has decried the undue and needless pressures being mounted on the State Government by persons bent on undermining traditional institutions in the state.

Utuama, declaring open a workshop for traditional rulers in Asaba on Friday, explained that "traditional institutions are creation of customary Law. They are therefore, not arbitrary institutions based on the whims and caprices of one person or group of persons.

"They are aged longed socio-political institutions taking their roots from customary Law's attempt to have an organised society".

He lamented that some persons have in the recent past attempted subverting the laws and traditions that established the royal institutions in their brazen and unbridled quest to destabilise the system.

"I want to turn my attention to...issues affecting traditional institutions in the state. One is the twin issues of incessant demand upon Government to recognise or remove traditional rulers from office. Related to that issue is the agitation for creation of new kingdoms our of existing kingdoms.

"The various agitations either for creation of new kingdoms or removal of recognised kings or monarchs do not sufficiently recognise the legal nature of our traditional institutions.
