UPP National Chairman, Chief Chekwas Okorie
Proponents of a Nigerian President of Igbo extraction yesterday got a boost as one of the newly registered political parties, United Progressive Party Friday said it has zoned it's Presidential candidate slot to the South East.
The party which held the inaugural meeting of it's National Executive Committee (NEC) in Abuja on Friday, said it does not see the likelihood of a virile opposition merger in the 2015 elections.
In a communiqué read to Journalists by the National Chairman of the UPP, Chief Chekwas Okorie, he said the party's decision to zone the presidency ticket to South East is without prejudice to any proposal for alliance with any political party either now or in the future.
He said the party would immediately put all machinery in motion for effective participation and contest of the 2015 presidential election.
"NEC has approved the zoning of the presidential slot of our great party for the 2015 presidential election in Nigeria to the South East geo-political zone,” he said.
