Mr. Ado Wanka, MD, Unity Bank
Unity Bank Plc has disclosed plans to increase its branch network nationwide, saying that with about 40 branches currently in Lagos, there is a need for expansion.
The bank also restated its commitment to meeting the needs of its customers through value creation. The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the bank, Mr. Ado Wanka, stated this during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos recently.
Wanka was represented by the Executive Director, Lagos and West, Unity Bank, Mr. Lanre Fagbohun. “There are plans to increase the branch network nationwide so as to accommodate new customers who want to enjoy the service and products the bank already offers,” he said.
According to him, in spite of the fact that Unity Bank already has about 300 branches spread across Nigeria, there are significant volumes of unbaked public that still require banking services across the nation.
Wanka stated that the commercial bank has put in place measures to allow for superior customer experience in the financial institution.
He listed one of the measures to include security, to ensure that on-line banking and transactions’ safety are guaranteed and uncompromised, in a bid to safeguard customer identity in support of the cashless policy of the government.
“Without an adequate security measure put in place, there is no way that Unity Bank would have been awarded the certification of International Standard Organisation (ISO) for information security and we are proud to say that we are one of the four banks that have this certification in the industry.
“Unity Bank was the first deposit money bank in Nigeria to use the ‘BANKS’ application software to upgrade its Information Technology infrastructure to Oracle 11g with Web Logic. The upgrade was carried out to guarantee long term data integrity and confidentiality of the bank’s customers’ information and records as well as high level data resilience,” Wanka explained.
According to him, Unity Bank had joined the league of MasterCard member banks as it recently introduced new products.
Speaking on the unveiling of its mobile banking application, Unity Mobile, he said: “the customer is at the core of our business and with over 250 branches spread across the 36 states and the federal capital territory; we are determined to meet the needs of our customers whoever and wherever they are.”
