The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Prof. James Sunday Adelabu, has disclosed that the courses, which had been cause of the lingering crises in the institution, are on the verge of receiving full accreditation with the assurance that the accreditations would be received by April this year.

The affected programmes are Engineering, Agriculture, Veterinary Medicine and Medicine.
Adelabu, at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, said the university management has worked hard in the last few months to meet up with the requirements for the accreditation of the courses from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and professional bodies as the case may be.

"The Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) had already conveyed its approvals for the commencement of clinical training to the university while the NUC had also conducted a resource verification of the engineering programme," he said.
These are crucial steps towards securing full accreditation, Adelabu noted, while he also appealed to the students of the affected courses to remain calm to allow the management follow all the steps needed.

“University of Abuja is a public institution which some people are bent on running down for no other reason other than their personal dislike for the chief executive. It is a proverbial case of employing sledge hammer to kill a fly" he said while accusing some members of staff of deliberate sabotage of the efforts of the management.

Recall that the students of the Faculty of Engineering disrupted the examinations of other departments in November last year over the non-accreditation of the faculty.
They repeated their protest last Monday and disrupted the examinations of final year students which has since been postponed to next Monday.
Security patrol vans have been stationed on the campus to avert a breakdown of law and order, THISDAY observed.
