The Former Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshall Dikko Umar (rtd.) has stated that information superiority is the key towards overcoming the present security challenges and future threats.
Umar made this known Friday at the flying out parade organised in his honour at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base, Abuja.
He however noted that any road map to improved capacity building, efficiency and effectiveness for the NAF cannot be achieved without proper budgetary appropriation.
He said: “Information superiority is the key towards overcoming the present security challenges and future threats. Here I mean, for NAF to respond to any conflict, dominate any situation and optimise day-to-day operation, accurate, timely and secure information must be readily available.
“Indeed, air power as a versatile and multi-facet instrument can be used in defence against external aggression, promoting security and supporting people, I strongly believe that the Nigerian Air Force can formulate a new road map that would provide fresh conceptual template on how constitutional role could be effectively enhanced”.
The former NAF Chief also express despair after the fortune of the Service took a nosedive after 1980s as it" was underfunded curiously by military regimes before the return of democracy in 1999".
“It is my considered opinion that any roadmap to improved capacity building, capacity building, efficiency and effectiveness for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) cannot be achieved without proper budgetary appropriation", he noted.
Umar appealed to the Federal Government and the members of the National Assembly to continue to assist, support and ensured increased funding of the NAF.
He also expressed gratitude to President Goodluck Jonathan for giving him the opportunity to serve the country at the crucial time
Speaking earlier at a dinner held in his honour on Friday night, the immediate CAS quoting the world renowned British politician, Sir Winston Churchill said his retirement is not the end but the beginning of a new chapter of his life even as he reflected on the legacy he is leaving behind.
