Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-east will tomorrow hold a crucial meeting with the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji. Bamanga Tukur, in Enugu over the future of the party in the zone.

In a statement made available to journalists by the party’s National Vice-Chairman, South-east, Col. Austin Akobundu (rtd), stated that the meeting scheduled for Nike Lake hotel in Enugu, will afford the zone the opportunity to consolidate on the successes it had achieved in the past one year in reconciling aggrieved members and setting agenda for reconstruction.

He noted that stakeholders in the zone, including the governors of Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi States, the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu; the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha; the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim; national and state legislators, ministers, commissioners and political aides, zonal executive committee members, women and youth groups have been adequately mobilised for the meeting.

Akobundu added that the South-east zone: “Is a strong PDP stronghold where internal party crises have proven to be more manageable than initially thought”, attributing this to the maturity of leaders in the zone and their willingness to make personal sacrifices for the progress of the people.

“The national chairman’s visit will be the icing on the cake. Considering the progress we have made in reconciling aggrieved individuals and groups in the zone, the meeting will afford everyone an opportunity to make inputs on ways to move the party forward.

“Our doors are open to returning members but no returnee will be treated as if he or she is above the party’s constitution. PDP is the home of South Easterners. We are comfortable with the Party’s development strides, which is why we support the President’s Transformation Agenda.
“We are also a party with rules of engagement. Reconciliation of aggrieved members is an ongoing commitment but we shall always be guided by the Party’s Constitution in whatever we do,” he said.
