TomTom, the Official Candy of the Nigerian national football teams, has urged the Super Eagles of Nigeria to approach the 2013 Africa Nations’ Cup final against the Stallions of Burkina Faso on Sunday with strong determination to ensure the trophy comes to Nigeria.
Kufre Ekanem, Corporate Affairs Manager, Cadbury West Africa, manufacturers of TomTom, maintained that nothing but victory would put smiles on the faces of Nigerians who had longed to have the cup back on Nigerian soil after close to two decades when the country last won. He explained that TomTom, being the True Fan of the national teams, is pleased with the performance of the Super Eagles, stressing that it is the team’s determination that has brought it this far in the tournament.
He said that TomTom has stepped up its support for the team to bring the trophy home. To inspire the team to win the trophy, TomTom has increased the Most Valuable Player Award to $10,000. This, he said, would be awarded to the tournament’s most valuable player in the Nigerian team.
Each shot on target would also be rewarded with $500 and this, he maintained, would be considered from the first match to the final match. Already, the Super Eagles have accumulated 20 shots on target. More shots on target in the final match on Sunday automatically translate to more cash reward for the team.
An elaborate reception for the team and a trophy tour to enable the fans feel a part of the celebration are also on the card by the brand which believed the Super Eagles are set for glory.
He said: “We believe Nigeria will carry the day come Sunday and so, TomTom has an elaborate plan to receive the team. We are spearheading the plan to make Nigerians who are true fans of the Super Eagles to have a feel of the trophy on the streets. There will be a trophy tour across the major cities of the Nigeria.”
The brand has over the years been at the forefront of providing support for the various teams through different initiatives. In addition to the Most Valuable Player Award (MVP), TomTom introduced Shots-on-Target Award to spur the squads to produce goals and win matches. It has also motivated fans to cheer the teams by organizing road shows in all the geo-political zones of Nigeria.
