The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has re-launched its Karate-do Club in order to ensure that its officers are physically and mentally alert to tackle the current challenges of terrorism and internal insurrections, especially from the Boko Haram group.

In line with this vision, the Acting Comptroller-General of NIS, Rilwanu Bala Musa, at the weekend flagged off a two-day coaching and grading programme under the auspices of the African Continental Technical Coordinator for Shotokan Karate-do International Federal (SKIF), Shihan Goby China Oredola,  and the Nigerian Chief Instructor for Shotokan Karate-do International-Nigeria (SKI-N), Sensei Emmanuel Metu.

Musa emphasised on the need for the officers to keep fit and encouraged the participants with the promise that the service would build a mini sports complex to accommodate indoor sports such as karate within the Immigration village in Sauka, Abuja.

"There is need for officers and men of NIS to be physically and mentally alert at all times especially now that the security challenges in the country has taken a very difficult and dangerous shape," he said.

Speaking after the two-day coaching and grading programme, the Sensei and Chief Instructor of the SKI-N, NIS Chapter, Assistant Comptroller-General Emmanuel Brasca Ifeadi who was successfully graded to 5th Dan Black belt, said that various participants were also graded for higher belts ranging from junior to senior white belts, yellow to orange, and from green to purple belts.

Most of the NIS participants from Kano State Command and SHQs Abuja commended the Immigration management and organisers of the programme, and assured that with such training the Service could win laurels for the country at the international events.
