Governor Danbaba Suntai

Senator Jummai Al-Hassan from Taraba State has accused the state government of concealing the true state of health of Governor Danbaba Suntai, who is undergoing medical treatment Germany following an air crash.

Jummai Al-Hassan representing Taraba North senatorial district in the Senate, told journalists in Abuja at the weekend that the state government officials have failed to come out with the true position on the state of health of the governor but were contented with feeding the people of the state with tissues of lies.

She said even though the people were praying for the recovery of the governor to enable him to resume his duties, they were however tired of hearing the never-ending messages that he was doing well and would soon return.

The serving senator demanded a concrete proof such as a video or audio recording of a message from Governor Suntai to prove that he was indeed in good health.

According to her, "The state is not going the way it should be. It is unfortunate that this accident happened but we are praying for him to be well and come back soon.

"We hear that he is getting better every day. They even fix dates that he is coming back today, he is coming back tomorrow but we are still praying for him to recover fully and come back to the state. But now we have an acting governor.

"You see, people in my state are crying out, saying they should be told where the governor is, how the governor is. You see, if you say the governor is getting better and you speak with him on the phone, you should be able to take  at least an audio message to the people so that they hear his voice.

"Everybody in Taraba knows the governor's voice. If they say they spoke with him every day, they should be able to take at least an audio message. They say he goes to parties, they send pictures to us and so on, they should be able to video or take an audio message from the governor to tell us he is alright. But they are politicking with somebody's health,” she said.

The senator said she did not believe in some of the pictures published in the media purportedly showing that the governor has sufficiently recovered from his injuries he sustained from the self-piloted ill-fated aircraft.

She stated in response to a question: "I don't believe at all because if he is well enough to attend parties, the governor should be back home to face his work and to serve us the people of Taraba State.

"If the governor is not coming back due to bad advice, but everyday, they tell us, even if  they spoke  with him on phone, that I have just finished speaking to him 40 minutes ago, one hour ago, the governor should speak to the people. The people have the right to know but they are politicking. So, we are just holding on and looking at them,” the senator representing Taraba North senatorial district said.
