Hon. Aminu Tambuwal
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, Thursday said the House will next Tuesday vote on the report of its Ad hoc Committee on constitution Review.
The announcement followed the preliminary consideration of the report at the Committee of the Whole to prepare grounds for the voting.
Tambuwal urged the lawmakers to endeavour to come along with their copies of the Peoples Public Sessions as that would serve as a guide to each lawmaker during the voting.
In the course of the consideration of the report, about eight clauses, which had to do with amendments that had not passed due process were dropped from the report.
It was resolved that issues slated for inclusion or amendment but which had not previously passed through the normal law making process should be separated from issues that had passed through the critical stages of lawmaking, particularly public hearing.
The House had twice this week postponed the consideration of the report.
On Tuesday, the report consideration was deferred following confusion over the appropriate procedure to adopt in handling it.
The following day, it was also postponed in honour of Senator Pius Ewherido, a member of the Upper Chamber who died two weeks ago.
There was also the issue of the breakdown of the electronic voting system.
