Hammed Shittu writes on the efforts made by Hon. Ahmed Ali to make his people feel and enjoy the dividends of democracy by providing jobs for the unemployed, as well as skill acquisition amongst others

Since the return to democratic rule in Nigeria in 1999, various politicians have been elected into various political offices with the intent of adding values to the socio economic development of the electorate and thereby reducing poverty.
The reason to this development is not far fetched as the past military governments turned their back on the citizens leaving them into their own destinies which hitherto affected their socio economic well being due to their perceived neglect in the area of addressing the needs of the people.

However, one of the politicians that have been commended for delivering the dividend of democracy is Hon. Ahmadi Ali. When Ali was elected under the platform of the ruling PDP in Kwara State into the House of Representatives seventh assembly in the last general election to represent Ilorin East/Ilorin South Federal Constituency, little did the people of his constituency knew that the rays of hope and socio economic growth had beckoned on them. This is because of the way and manner their representative has been lived up to the expectations of the electorate that has brought the dividends of democracy to the doorsteps of the people.
The recorded achievement of Hon. Ali in the National Assembly vis-a-vis his contributions to the socio-well being of his federal constituency has continued to place him above other representatives in his task of addressing the need of the people of his constituency.

Hon. Ali who is fondly called by his supporters in the state as “Ali Dodo” has groomed his leadership style of making life bearable to the down trodden masses since he was a senior lecturer at Bayero University, Kano and University of Ilorin, Kwara State.
Also, when he joined politics almost five years ago when his leader, former governor of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki discovered him and appointed him as his Chief of Staff Government House, Ilorin and later the state commissioner for Justice and Attorney General of the State, Hon. Ali has taken selfless service to humanity as his major code which led to his general acceptability by the people of the state, especially in the ruling PDP in the state and within the members of Ilorin East/Ilorin South federal constituency that he represents.
However, within the period he has been in the House, he has served as the chairman, House Committee on Judiciary, being a legal luminary and for his exposures and contributions to the course of humanity.

Hon. Ali, who has a standard blueprint of leadership zeal, decided to set the ball rolling with the establishment of empowerment scheme for the people of his federal constituency so as to bring new lease of life to the people.
The empowerment which cut across education, economic, health, power generation among others have no doubt has increased the socio economic development of the people of Ilorin East/Ilorin South federal constituency since he was elected into the National Assembly almost two years ago.

On education empowerment, Hon. Ali on his first year at the House, about 260 students from his constituency benefitted from the “Ahmad Education Support Programme. The affected students had their fees paid for to sit for NABTEB examinations free of charge by the lawmaker. He also donated furniture to the Central Igboro Primary School, Ilorin. This financial assistance is different from the one given to some students that are either preparing to write their examinations or payment of their school fees.
On economic empowerment, Hon. Ali took the survey of the unemployed. Presently, about 32 graduates in the constituency have been offered employment in the federal civil service and federal boards and corporations in the country.    Among such places of employment offered by the lawmaker include NTA, customs, Legal Aid Council, Immigration, Nigeria Copy Right Commission, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin, Judiciary Commission and NTI, Kaduna.

In addition, the lawmaker has released over N2m to the Hausa community in the constituency, while N1m was also released to some youths in the constituency as loans in an attempt to reduce poverty and boost the socio economic growth of the constituency.
In the area of family support, a sum of N18million was released to sponsor some families to Hajji, Umrah, Jerusalem, Ileya festival, Ramadan fasting, Naming ceremonies, coronation, marriages as well as bereavement, all in order to promote family-friendly environment in the constituency. On the health, the lawmaker was able to construct and renovate the only health centre at Tanke community.

Other interventions include, drilling of 26 motorised boreholes at different locations in the constituency, installation of 14 transformers in the constituency, construction of mini stadia at Government Secondary School, Ilorin; construction of police post at Opo-Malu, Ilorin South local government council area, donation to development associations, communities, community secondary school, Iporin.
It will also be noted that, Hon. Ali as a member of the lower chamber and chairman House Committee on Judiciary has been involved in the day to day activities of the House.

He also participated in various legislative proceedings and even sponsored couple of bills at the floor of the house. Among the ten bills sponsored and in progress before the floor of the National Assembly by Hon. Ali include, Nigerian Community Service Bill 2011, Desertification (Control) Commission 2011, Legal Education Act (amendment) Bill 2012, Federal High Court Amendment Bill 2012 and National Climate Change Commission Bill 2011.

However, in interview with our correspondent, some of the beneficiaries described him a true representative of the Ilorin East/ Ilorin South federal constituency of the state. Elder Tunde Kareem, Alhaji Abdulraheem Abiola Falilat, Alhaji Soliu Hamid, all from Ilorin South local government praised the leadership style of the lawmaker and enjoined him not to rest on his oars in the task of adding values to the socio economic development of the rural populace in the constituency.

Also, Alhaji Abiola Ibrahim, Mrs. Hassan Aminat, Mr. Yahaya Soliu, all from Ilorin East local government extolled the leadership of the lawmaker saying that, he has risen to the needs of the people of the constituency since he was elected into the National Assembly almost two years ago.
In his own comment too, Hon. Ali thanked the people of the constituency for their support since his election to the National Assembly.
He said his achievements in office were due to the leadership style of the political leader of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki.
