Former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva wants to spring a surprise. He has dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to court to claim what he called his mandate as the PDP candidate in last year’s governorship election in the state. Sylva is claiming he was the rightful candidate of the party. He said in his affidavit that there was no basis for PDP to hold fresh primaries as he had earlier won the gubernatorial primaries held in January 2011, which he says automatically made him the authentic candidate of the party for the election. Sound logical or what do you think? To be fair, following the Supreme Court judgment on his tenure elongation bid, which he lost, PDP had excluded Sylva from the January 2012 governorship race.

The case he filed at the Federal High Court in Yenagoa emerged around the time Governor Seriake Dickson was marking one year in office and turning the entire place into a huge construction zone. So Sylva slept all along and only woke up one year after to now demand his mandate? But this sounds all too familiar, the former governor may just want to perform a feat: to be the Rotimi Amaechi of Bayelsa.
