Governor Gabriel Suswam
Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has warned those campaigning for him to contest higher elective position in 2015 to desist and stop heating up the polity.
Suswam, who gave the warning yesterday while presenting 46 official cars to the 23 deputy chairmen of local government councils and leaders of the legislative councils in the state, said: "Please, I want to concentrate on the governance of the state and would not want to be distracted by such campaigns.
“Those who want me to become president of the country or whatever, the time is not ripe, they should wait till next year. Do not distract me because of 2015.”
He also frowned on the series of campaigns by those jostling to succeed him as governor of the state, observing that "it is rather too early for such campaigns."
He said: "Such campaigns are causing a lot of distractions to our administration and I must add that government would not take it kindly if it is discovered that government officials are also involved in this."
“If any government official wants to campaign for governorship he should resign his appointment,” he advised.
He said the purchase of cars for the deputy chairmen and leaders of local government legislative councils was meant to enhance their performance, adding that the state government would continue to regulate the third-tier of government to enable them bring value to their people.
