The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, will on Wednesday commence the 2012/2013 legal year.
On the same day, the CJN will also inaugurate the new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs).
According to a statement by the Deputy Director, Press and Information, Supreme Court, Festus Akande, the occasion will take place at the main auditorium of the apex court.
He said: “The recess marking the end of the current legal year 2011/2012 which commenced on Monday, July 16, 2011 is expected to terminate on Sunday, September 9, 2012.”
Meanwhile, the special valedictory court session in honour of the retired Justice Francis Fedode Tabai will hold on Thursday, September 13, 2012 at 10 am at the same venue.
It will be recalled that human rights activist, Femi Falana, lawyer to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Jacobs and 23 other legal practitioners were on June 12 selected as Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs) by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC).
The list of the new SANs are: Professor Yemi Akinsheye-George, Professor Dakas Clement James Dakas, Joy Okungbowa Adeshina (Mrs) Chief (Mrs) Connie- Ean Aremu, Mahmud Abubakar Magaji, Ogwu James Onoja, Garuba Usman Tetengi, Henry Oghogho, Selekeowei Larry and Abenny O.Mohammed.
Others are Charles Nwanne Obishai, Lime Chuwudi Illogu, Francis Chuka Agbu, Paul Ananaba, Akinlaja Dayo Moses, Ahmed Raji, Adekunle Theophilus Oyesanya, Rotimi Oluseyi Oguneso, Oluseye Samuel Opasanya, Aduroja Cladius Olumuyiwa, Aliyu Umaru, Illo Katune Sanusi, and Ndukwe A. Nnawuchi.
