Liverpool’s Luis Suarez
The first ‘Super Sunday’ of the New Year is already upon us and sees some very mouth-watering fixtures taking place at both the Theatre of Dreams and the Emirates Stadium.
The Theatre of Dreams is the setting for the traditional North East rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool, while the Emirates is the stage for the clash between champions, Manchester City and Arsenal.
In the first leg played at Anfield, United were lucky to leave with all three points courtesy of a 1-0 victory; while at the Etihad Stadium, Arsenal played one of the best games they have this season in bouncing back to secure a 1-1 draw.
However, since then while the teams from both the blue and red halves of Manchester have grown stronger, Liverpool and Arsenal have faltered so much so that the Gunners are now sixth 11 points behind their visitors while Liverpool is languishing in eighth position a massive 21 points behind United.
On the strength of these stats it appears that the Manchester teams should be odds on favourites for the three points, but as we all know with football nothing is a dead certain – and as such anything is possible!
So while predicting the outcome is dicey, one thing is certain fans should be in for a truly ‘Super Sunday’ of English Premier League football.
