Dr. Andrew Pocock
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Dr. Andrew Pocock has advised that a broad based approach to include policies aimed at economic development would help provide a long term solution to the issue of Boko Haram in northern Nigeria. This is as he added that the terrorist threat is an extension of the Sahelian problems in Mali and Algeria which has now stifled economic activities in the North. Pocock at an interaction with newsmen in Abuja, Friday reiterated the commitment of the United Kingdom to partner with Nigeria and other countries to stem the tide of terrorism in sub-Saharan Africa.
The UK, he said immediately provided logistical support to the French troops when they moved in on the rebels in Northern Mali as did the United States. “within two weeks, we have seen a co-ordinated international reaction against terrorism. What France did was to immediately stop the advancement of the terrorists towards the capital,” he said.
