Former Shooting Stars and Nigeria striker Rashidi Yekini
Former Shooting Stars and Nigeria striker Rashidi Yekini will be remembered Friday by a testimonial match in Ibadan a year after he died.
Former African Footballer of the Year Yekini, who featured for Nigeria at the 1994 and 1998 World Cups, died at the age of 47 on May 4 2012 after a brief illness.
The memorial match will be between All Stars of Ibadan (Friends of Rashidi Yekini) against BRF All Stars of Lagos State Friday afternoon at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
The All Stars of Ibadan will parade the likes of ex-international goalkeepers Ike Sorunmu, Lateef Yusuf, Raymond King, while the other top players who will grace the event are Gbenga Okunnowo, Femi Opabunmi, Duke Udi, Bright Omokaro, Christopher Friday, Dele Adeleye, Ajibade Babalade, Dimeji Lawal, Toyin Ayinla and Waidi Akanni.
Yekini’s personal lawyer, Jubril Mohammed, launched a book on the Nigeria all-time leading international scorer Thursday.
