SSS Arrests 7 Undergraduates for Cultism, Possession of Fake Currencies

Seven suspected students of one of the colleges of education in Kwara state have been arrested by men of the state directorate of the State Security Services (SSS) for alleged abduction, rape, cultism, and being in possession of fake currency notes.

The affected suspects according to THISDAY checks were arrested by the SSS following a tip-off from the members of the public.

The Director of the SSS in the State Mr. Williams Ologba who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin on Friday while parading the affected suspects, said items recovered from them included cult masks, charms, locally made pistol, three different sizes of cutlass, and N72,000 fake currency notes in N500 denominations.

The director who recalled that, there was  a resurgence of cult activities in the state in the past few months that led to the death of one cult  member, said that the breakthrough of the arrested suspects has shown that the security operatives have not been resting on their oars at nipping  crime in the bud.

According to him, two of the suspects from who they recovered dangerous weapons allegedly raped one of their female colleagues, adding that the culprits who were arrested, subsequently, named other members of in the crime.  

The Director said investigations revealed that cult members have declared every July as their month of cult activities, appealed to people to expose suspected cult members in their communities as part of measures to keep them out of the society.
