The Nigeria Squash Federation (NSF) will be holding a four-day officiating course at the Akim Army Barracks, Calabar, Cross River State between November 15 to 18.

In a press briefing held on Thursday at the conference hall of the National Sports Commission, president of the Nigeria Squash Federation, Femi Ajagbe, said members of the public who are interested in the game of squash will be having a golden opportunity to learn the latest computerised coaching method to be facilitated by Mr. Madan, an American based World Squash Federation instructor of international repute.

On the choice of Calabar, Ajagbe said: “The choice of Calabar is because it’s conducive for learning as against Lagos that is noisy. Everything cannot be held in Lagos, other states should also enjoy the presence of the federation.

Continuing, he said: “The event is packaged to coincide with the coming 18th National Sports Festival in Lagos so as to put what they would have just learnt in the course to use during the festival and to correct the lapses of our officials.”

Madan is expected to impact the latest coaching, marking and refereeing skills, after which he would assess and grade all participants.

Meanwhile, after rigorous training and intensive assessment, the Lagos State Squash Association (LSSA) unveiled its eight-man team for the 18th National Sports Festival tagged Eko 2012.

According to the Head Coach of LSSA, Wasiu Sanni, the players were selected based on their form, while assuring that the team is set to sweep the four medals at stake at the festival.

The selected players are Moses Durosinmi, Wale Amao, Wasiu Bello and Mayowa Olorunnisola for the men’s team while the female team are Taiwo Ebifemi, Alimot Idris, Funke Awosanya and Shade David.

Excited about the support accorded the team by the state government, Sanni said it became necessary for the team to reciprocate the gesture by clinching the four gold medals at the festival.

“For me I have been playing for the national team for long and I want to say that we have had the best of support from the state government for our preparation for the festival. Al the equipment the team needed have been provided and all the players are in top shape to do well at the festival and I want to assure the state government that we will not disappoint them,” he said.

For the captain of the team, Bello, nothing can stop the team from emerging the overall winner in the event.
