(Reuters) - South Africa's consumer inflation ticked up to 5.0 percent year-on-year in August, in line with market expectations, from 4.9 percent in July, Statistics South Africa said on Wednesday.

On a month-on-month basis, inflation eased to 0.2 percent compared with 0.3 percent in July and against economists' expectations that it would remain steady at 0.3 percent.
