Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Shagari, Friday said no case of outbreak of wild polio virus was recorded in the state in the last seven months.
Shagari, who is the Chairman of the State Committee on the Eradication of Polio, made the remark during a meeting with stakeholders in Sokoto.
According to him, the state had recorded progress in the fight against polio and child killer diseases in the state. He attributed the giant strides made in that regard to the efforts of the members of the Committee on Polio in sensitizing people on the need to accept the vaccination programme.
The deputy governor also acknowledged the role of traditional and religious leaders in prevailing on communities to allow their wards to be immunized.
He stressed the need for local government councils in the state not to relent in the fight against the scourge.
