Sheraton Abuja takes giant strides for Child Education

Sheraton Abuja Hotel recently hosted over 1,000 participants at the annual UNICEF “Road to awareness walk” 2012.

The branded participants representing various organizations, government bodies, schools and orphanages converged at the foyer of the Ladi Kwali Conference Center of the Hotel.
A team of well trained children selected from invited schools eagerly received the Special Guest of Honour-Her Excellency:

Hajia Amina Mohammed Namadi Sambo- Wife of the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Ably represented by the Minister for State,

FCT Mrs. Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide and a host of other dignitaries and family members.
Top Management officials from the Airfrance KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Signature Holidays, Dufil Prima foods makers of Indomie noodles, Nigerian Bottling Company Plc (Coca Cola), National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in persons and other related matters (NAPTIP)

Capital Hotels plc owners of Sheraton Abuja Hotel, True Expressions, NIPOST, Measure Evaluation Nigeria, Federal Road Safety Corps,

European Union representatives, major Corporate, Public and Private Organizations, sponsors/supporters as well as the entire management of Sheraton Abuja Hotel and the UNICEF country Representative for Nigeria- Dr. Ibrahim Fall were present to grace the event.

The heart of everyone was devotedly set to achieve the UNICEF Road to awareness target for 2012 which aims at facilitating the construction of pre-schools and help 50,000 children under the age of 6 to get ready for primary education in Africa.

The 5km Walk which normally takes an hour was interspersed with motivational music and dance from various bands. 
The walk rounded off with a grand reception party in which speeches were read by sponsors in full view of the media.  

Dr. Ibrahim Fall the Unicef Country Representative for Nigeria delivered the key note address on the objective of the initiative (part of Starwood’s Global CSR strategy -moving forward to focus on ‘Opening Doors to Opportunity’ through education).

The New General Manager Sheraton Abuja Hotel Mr. Boris Bornman gave the welcoming address.
