The Presidential candidate of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2011 election and former Governor of Kano state, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau Monday mourned the Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Dr. Lateef Adegbite, who died recently.
Malam Ibrahim Shekarau in a statement in Kano signed by his media aide, Alhaji Sule Yau Sule said the death of Adegbite came at a critical time when the country needed him.
According to the statement made available to reporters in Kano, Shekarau described late Adegbite as an upright, fearless, committed and accomplished Islamic worker and a lawyer of high pedigree.
The former Presidential candidate also condoled the bereaved family, Nigerians over the death and prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Malam Shekarau who is the Sardauna of Kano described late Adegbite as a true and strong believer in one united Nigeria, inhabited by people who are socially diverse, economically empowered and politically active.
The statement also appealed to the country to emulate him by remembering him due to his contribution to the peace and unity in the entire country.
He added “people of his calibre deserve to be always remembered so that the young ones will learn from them always in their day to day activities to have stronger and united society”.
Shekarau also congratulated Nigerians for the 52 years of independence and appealed to Nigerians to put behind their differences and come together as one people to tackle national problems.
