A former senator representing Yobe North, Usman Al-Bishir died in a ghastly auto crash along Zaria-Kano Expressway on Monday.
Late Senator Al-Bishir, who left the ANPP after serving as Senator on the platform of the party between 1999 to 2007, later joined the PDP due to irreconcilable differences with former of governor of Yobe State, Alhaji Bukar Abba Ibrahim.
He became the PDP flag bearer for Yobe State after defeating former Minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri at the party’s primaries.
Late Al-Bishir, however, lost the election last year to the incumbent governor Alhaji Ibrahim Geidam. However, not satisfied with the outcome of the election, Alhaji Al-Bishir took his fight to the election tribunal and all the way up to the Supreme Court.
The late politician met his untimely death near Kura, about 40 kilometres from Kano, after spending the weekend in Kano. He was on his way to Abuja.
He died at the age of 65 and left behind one wife and seven children.
Our correspondent learnt that hundreds of sympathisers thronged to his Mundubawa Avenue residence in Kano at about 4pm, on hearing the news.
A funeral prayer service was held before he was buried in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
