Senate President David Mark will turn 64 next month. And to celebrate the occasion the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) is on the line to feature at a Birthday Kitty to be played from April 3-4.
The tournament will be played over four days at the St Mark Golf Club, Akpedege, Otukpo and will be the professionals’ second visit to Otukpo this year.
We learnt Saturday night that an appearance fee of N5million is being dangled before the crème of the country’s elite players in both the regular and senior tours to participate.
Senator Mark, who himself is a double burst handicapper is the owner of the St Mark layout. He was a former communications engineer in the Nigeria Army where he rose to the rank of a Brigadier General.
Aside the kitty, all the members of the PGAN will troop to Otukpo for the Annual General Meeting (AGM) where they will be electing a new executive committee. The AGM is billed for April 3.
One of the persons touted to be angling to be on the committee is Festus Makelemi, who wants to succeed Jamiu Oyebajo as the Director of the PGAN Committee.
Oyebajo has directed the affairs of the committee for six years. Two other members of the past committee, Femi Olagbemiro and Ladi Jaiyeola, are also seeking vote of approval from the association to retain their respective portfolios.
Olagbemiro is eying the Operations Director while Jaiyeola is seeking the Financial Director.
Martin Odoh is canvassing to take over from Dominic Andrew as the Tournament Director.
The PGAN Committee is made up of four directors and two ordinary members. The committee will be elected for a renewable term of two years.
