Mrs Halima Wada, after playing a shot
Indications that this year’s Scottish Golf Classic will be a huge success driven by a strong Nigerian presence has been given by Mrs Halima Wada, the wife of Kogi State Governor.
The international amateur golf tournament, which enables the golfers to network as well as play some of the best golf courses in the UK, will hold at Fairmount St Andrews, Scotland from August 23- September 28, 2012.
Mrs Wada, whose company, Globenet Travels and Tours Limited is facilitating the tournament in Nigeria, said that the response from the Nigerian golf community has been encouraging as some golfers have already filled in registration forms to be on the trip.
A contingent of 21 amateur golfers left Nigeria to join golfers from five other countries last year.
“Though the tournament is still two months away, the response is particularly encouraging as some golfers have already registered to play the tournament,” Wada said.
Nigerian Tony Azogu beat the international field to claim the tournament which was in its maiden edition last year.
The Scottish Golf Classic will precede the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and will be played over four courses- the Torrance, the Kittocks, Kingsbarns and St Andrews Castle Course.
The contingent will be treated to five night’s accommodation at the luxury 5-star Fairmont St Andrews, which is some minute drive from the famed Old Course.
