The debate that more foreign agencies are entering the Nigeria Ad space gained momentum recently, when Scanad, a subsidiary of Africa's leading marketing services group, Scangroup Limited has inaugurated its Nigerian office.
Scangroup is listed on the Nairobi Security Exchange and is the only listed marketing communication company in Africa.
In the last year, three of such agencies have opened outlets in Nigeria, including WPP-owned marketing research company, Millward Brown and world-renowned advertising agency network, BBDO.
Just as BBDO joined its apron with a former President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN), Mr. Enyi Odigbo, and his Caesars Group, the new entrant, in a move to quickly catch up with the understanding of the market, has also appointed the immediate past AAAN leader, Mr. Rufai Ladipo, as its Chief Executive Officer.
In a statement issued in Lagos, the new company admitted that the decision for making the key strategic appointments, were aimed at supporting its growth and expansion strategy in the market.
Also appointed alongside Ladipo was Mr. Abiodun Mesharck Fagbohun as Head of Media, while its Managing Consultant, Mr. Sameer Ambegaonkar, is a Kenyan.
The statement quoted the group Chief Executive Officer, Bharat Thakrar that: “We are excited to bring experienced leaders to join Scanad Nigeria at this critical juncture. Ladipo, Fagbohun and Ambegaonkar have extensive experiences in their respective fields that we were seeking to help build this nascent company into one of the best marketing and communication companies in Nigeria.”
Meanwhile, Ladipo has reacted to the appointment and said he was well pleased with it. “I am excited and honored to have been asked to lead Scanad Nigeria, and look forward to working with the company's talented, dedicated employees to deliver leading solutions to our clients. We have an amazing opportunity before us and we will take full advantage of our position and our people to be successful. Innovation, quality and profitability will be the principles that will drive us going forward.”
Ladipo is the immediate past President of the Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN) and a fellow of Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON).
He joins Scanad Nigeria from STB-McCann, Lagos, where he served as Managing Director /CEO for 9 years after his historical appointment to the agency’s board at the turn of the century.
While at STB-McCann, he played a key role at the McCann-World Group level. Some of his achievements at STB-McCann included oversight responsibility for the McCann Healthcare corridor in key West African Markets; and the re-engineering of the agency’s processes and structures towards profitability.
Fagbohun is a Chartered Advertising and Marketing Practitioner and Full Member of Nigeria Chartered Institute of Marketing (NCIM) and Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON) with 22 years of post-graduation experience. He also served as Managing Director of CM3 Media Group, a Marketing Communication Group of Companies and as the Deputy Managing Director at Universal McCann.
Ambegaonkar joined Scanad Nigeria from Kenya where he was the Managing Director of the SCANAD Kenya for the last 10 years. He has over 30 years of experience in the advertising business, the last 18 of which have been in East Africa. He will be in-charge of strategy development and direction, and people skill development. He is expected to help Scanad Nigeria attain respectable stature in Nigeria.
