Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai
Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, Tuesday regained consciousness after he fell into a coma on Monday night, a family member has confirmed.
The former Eagles captain, fondly called Dodo Mayana opened his eyes for the first time Tuesday after he slumped in his Adeniran Ogunsanya office in Surulere area of Lagos.
“He is out of coma now and he can eat. He can equally recognise everyone around him. My brother is fine,” said a sibling of Rufai who simply identified himself as Bruce.
He also hinted that Rufai is now making efforts to communicate.
The goalkeeper, who played in several European leagues including Spain and Portugal, suddenly slumped at the office and was rushed to an unidentified hospital Monday night.
The former goalkeeper was reported to have taken the death of his mother last week very badly.
Last year, Rufai was appointed the co-ordinator of the Nigeria Olympic team but unfortunately the Under-23 male team failed to progress to the football event of the London 2012 Games.
