The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) is to recruit about 1500 Adhoc Staff for the forth coming election in seven (7) LGAs in the State.
The Commissioner in charge of Media and Public Affairs of the Commission, Hon. Ibiso Dakoru stated this in a media chat with Journalists at the Commission Headquaters.
She stated that the Commission will not hesitate to drop any Adhoc staff found to be Partisan, adding that members of the public have been given the opportunity to report any Adhoc staff shortlisted as published in the Tide Newspaper of 30th January 2013 to the Commission.
Speaking on the preparedness of RSIEC for the Election, Hon. Dakoru noted that 27 Political Parties have indicated their interest for the February 23rd,Bye and Re-run elections and March 2nd 2013 General Elections in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council, adding that all the Political Parties that indicated interest in the Election have concluded their primaries which were monitored by the Commision.
She commended the Political Parties for the peaceful conduct of their primaries and urged them to extend such spirit to the forth coming LGA Elections.
The Commissioner stated that the RSIEC has commenced the screening of all the candidates for the Election which according to her will last for one week, revealing that Political Parties will given a time frame within the law, substitute any candidate not qualified for the Election.
On the issue of security, Hon Dakoru revealed that several meetings have been held with the security agencies in the state who have promised to provide adequate security before, during and after the Election.
