Governor Rotimi Amaechi
The police in Rivers State Saturday refused key officials of the State government from entering the Obio/Akpor Local Government secretariat which it sealed off on Friday.
Those barred from the secretariat included the Chief of staff to Governor Chibuike Amaechi, Mr. Tony Okocha; the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Emma Chinda; and the newly inaugurated Chairman of the Caretaker Committee (CTC) of the Council, Mr. Chikodi Dike.
The development came as the state House of Assembly condemned the sealing off of Local Government Council secretariat by police and what it described as the clamp down on CTC set up by the state government for the council.
Reacting to the political crisis in the state, the founding President of International Integrity Bishops College and Faithful Ministers World Network, Archbishop Friday Nwator, has also called on President Goodluck Jonathan, Amaechi, and others involved in the crisis rocking the state to sheathe their swords and make peace in the interest of the people.
The council secretariat was sealed up by the police on Friday afternoon and the chairman and members of the CTC asked to vacate their offices.
THISDAY gathered that Dike had gone to the council yesterday to supervise the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, but was denied access by the security operatives who mounted sentry there since Friday afternoon.
Dike was said to have contacted Okocha, who went with Chinda to see things for themselves but they wewre shocked when they were still denied access to the premises even after identifying themselves.
